OPEN SPOTS · CLASS OF 2027
Which colleges need your event next year?
Every college track program loses seniors. Some lose their best athlete in your event with nobody behind them. Some do not recruit your event at all. Pick your event group and see which programs are most likely to sign someone like you, and the mark each one actually signs at.
What we look at, for every program
Who is leaving
Athletes in their final year in your event group, and where they rank on the team. Losing the team’s #1 is not the same as losing a walk-on.
Who is behind them
Returners already within a set margin of the leavers: 2% in distance, 0.15 seconds in the 100. A deep group fills its own holes.
Whether they recruit the event
Signings in the last classes, a coach for the event group, and athletes on the roster most years. No investment, no opening.
What they sign at
The median and top quarter of the high school marks the program actually signed, so you can see whether you would help.
Questions athletes and parents ask
How do you know a program has an opening?
We read every program’s official meet results for the last few outdoor seasons, with each athlete’s class year. Juniors from last spring are seniors now and leave after this season. We compare who is left with how many athletes the program usually races in that event group and how many it usually signs, then subtract the 2027 commits we already know about.
Why does a strong program sometimes show no opening?
Because it has depth. A team losing two seniors with three returners already within a couple of percent of them does not need to sign anyone. A team losing its best two with nobody close behind does. We count both the heads and the marks.
What does “does not recruit this event” mean?
The program has not signed an athlete in that event group in the classes we hold and does not carry one most years. A thin group there is not an opening. A distance school with one thrower left over is not looking for throwers, and we will not send you there.
Is this a promise of a roster spot?
No. It is an estimate of need, built from public results and signing data. Coaches also recruit for walk-ons, transfers and athletes from other countries, and plans change. Use it to decide where to write first, then talk to the coach.
When does it update?
After each signing period (November and April), when the new indoor rosters post in January, and whenever the commitments we track change. The date at the bottom of the results is the date of the last run.
