Trackbeast Research · 2025-26 signing class
What college track signees actually ran.
The high-school marks of the American athletes that NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA programs signed in the 2025-26 class — every sprint, distance race, hurdle, jump and throw, boys and girls. Not published walk-on standards and not estimates: the marks of the people who were actually signed.
Key findings
- The median D1 signee ran 4:18.34 for 1600m (boys, 706 signees across 254 programs) and 5:06.45 (girls, 773 across 270).
- The biggest drop-off is between D1 and D2. In the 1600m, D1 to D2 is 13.1 seconds for boys and D2 to D3 is 5.5; for girls it is 22.4 seconds, then 7.3.
- D3 and NAIA sign nearly the same runner. 800m median: boys 2:03.98 (D3) vs 2:05.28 (NAIA); girls 2:31.41 vs 2:31.48.
- A 4:31.40 1600m boy is the middle of the D2 class. A 5:36.11 girl is the middle of D3.
- Field events separate the levels as clearly as the track does. The median D1 boys' shot put signee threw 16.76m in high school against 13.80m at D3; the median D1 girls' long jumper went 5.58m against 5.00m.
The numbers, by event
Each cell shows the median signee (half the class was better, half was not), the mark that made the top quarter, the mark where the back quarter starts, and how many signees and programs the number is built from. A check mark means the board passed our data checks today. Tap a number for the full event page.

How these numbers were built
- Who is counted: American high-school athletes in the 2025-26 signing class of each program, with a verified high-school mark in the event. International signees are excluded so the numbers read as US high-school marks.
- Median is the middle signee. Top quarter (P25) and back quarter (P75) bracket the middle half of the class.
- 1500m and mile marks are shown as 1600m equivalents; 3000m as 3200m.
- A level is only published when enough signees across enough programs carry a mark. Otherwise the cell says so instead of guessing.
- An athlete counts only in the events they were signed for. A sprinter’s long jump or a hurdler’s 800m does not count toward that event.
- Jump and throw marks are in meters.
- Checks passed means the board cleared our data checks when this page was built: enough signees across enough programs, quartiles in order, and Division I reading at least as strong as Division II, and Division II as Division III. A board that fails prints no number.
What these numbers are not
They are not official cutoffs, offer thresholds or a promise of a scholarship. A signing is not proof of athletic aid. Programs within a division vary widely — use the school-by-school standards for a specific program, and the free Reality Report to see where your own marks fit.
