▸Coached by Lloyd "Bud" Winter from 1941-1970, San Jose State's men's track program became known as "Speed City," producing Olympic medalists Tommie Smith, John Carlos and Lee Evans, and winning the 1969 NCAA team title.

▸San Jose State's men's cross country team won back-to-back NCAA national championships in 1962 and 1963; the 1962 title made it the first racially integrated team to win an NCAA cross country championship.
