▸Before transitioning to NCAA Division I and the Big West Conference, UC San Diego was one of the most successful athletic departments in NCAA Division II, with the Tritons overall earning 30 team national championships and nearly 150 individual national championships across its two decades in Divisions II/III (department-wide, not track & field specific).

▸UC San Diego head track & field coach Kim Graham-Miller won an Olympic gold medal as part of the U.S. 4x400m relay team at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, after also reaching the individual 400m semifinals; she was inducted into the Clemson Ring of Honor in October 2024.
