Wis La Crosse, Bethel MN, ST Thomas TX, Illinois Wesleyan, Misericordia carry and sign well above the D3 average in 400m (6% of a typical D3 roster). They have more roster spots in the event to fill every year.
Which D3 programs do not recruit 400m?
54 D3 women's programs show no 400m athletes racing and no signings in the event in the classes we hold, including Alfred, Alfred State, Alma, Anderson IN, Benedictine IL, Berry. A thin group there is not an opening.
Does a bigger share of the roster mean more scholarship money?
Colleges do not publish scholarships by event. Where a program spends its roster spots and its signings is the best public evidence of where the money goes, and a program that carries twice the division share in your event has roughly twice the seats to fill. Ask the coach about aid directly.
How is this calculated?
From each program's official outdoor results lists (who raced each event area, averaged over the seasons we hold), its signing classes (2025-26, 2026-27), its share of the division's top marks, and whether a paid coach is titled for the event. Each is compared with the D3 average and blended; a small class is pulled toward the average so one big year cannot fake a specialty.
